Summer’s done, the days are getting shorter and Winter is on it’s way. So much so a man had to slap together a coat for the incoming blitz:
The aformentioned 1/1 coatski…
Anyway, back to the topic. The winter’s coming, and I thought it would be fitting to prepare a playlist – of sorts – that reflect the frosty inner city street culture and impending climate.
86 – PENG TING HELLO
Though this aint the coldest track from man like 86 – who’re known for drillin’ – I had to include this one cah dese man ching guys , burst leng and despite this being a “girl friendly” club track – with the burgeoning Afro sound being a heavy influence on the song – true to form – it’s still full up with a whole ‘eap’ah crudd.
R6 – REDRUM REVERSE
BIS – CALL IT
ABRA CADABRA – ART OF WAR
WHACKEYE – WE DON’T LIKE POLICE
AMBUSH – BLOOD
J HUS – CLARTIN
SKRAPZ – NOT LIKE ME
K TRAP – WILD THOUGHTS
“Let me just spin this thing and put him on the ground-ground-ground…”
SWIFT X LOSKI – UGLY FACES
67 X DESIGNER – AROUND THE WORLD
Had to include this track because on the face of it, it seems like a pop-crossover attempt by 67. But, when you listen to the verses you quickly realise the 67 aint watered down a thing. Which is what makes this track so cold. A hook from Desiigner with mass appeal, contrasted with the uncompromising gun talk and hood verses of Brixton Hills finest rap group.

BONUS:
GRIMINAL – MAYHEM
Just a reminder to all young Grime fans or olders who seem to be alarmed by the callousness of Drill music. Thought I’d drop this in, not just coz its a classic, but as a reference to a time when Grime MC’s used to talk SMACK in their tracks. Maybe the gun talk – the references to lickin man down and splashin’ opps was less frequent in their bars. But it was there, and for all intents and purposes, though the stylee has evolved, the content of British inner city street music really hasn’t changed. #
“Manna jack man for the gameboy DC! Rags! Run up on a man wiv da CS!…”
